Apple released its 4th generation products for iPhone and iPod touch product category in 2010, they both have similar specification, although they are intended for different purpose. iPhone 4 was officially released in U.S. on 24 June 2010, whereas iPod Touch was released months after that in September 2010. Operating System
On the release date, iPhone 4 came with iOS 4.0, on the other hand, 4th generation iPod Touch is pre-installed with iOS 4.1. They both can be upgraded to iOS 4.2. However there’s a slight features is missing from iPod Touch iOS, this probably caused by no hardware installed in the iPod Touch.
Processor and Memory
The iPhone 4 and latest iPod Touch both use the exact same ARM Cortex-A8 Apple A4, which are clocked at 1 GHz. One of the most significant different between 4th Generation of iPhone and iPod Touch, is main memory capacity. iPhone was installed with 512 MB, twice larger than iPod Touch.
Therefore, iPhone 4 will likely to perform better in larger applications compared to iPhone. With the upgrade of iOS 4, which allowed the device to multitask on apps, iPhone 4 will definitely perform better when multitasking between apps.
Graphics and Display
The 4th generation of iPhone and iPod Touch, is using the graphics processor of PowerVR SGX535. The graphics processing unit in iPhone and iPod were combined with its main processors to emphasize on saving energy. For their display iPhone and iPod Touch using 3.5 inch, with resolution 960 x 640 pixels, at 326 ppi, aspect ratio 3:2. However the display in iPhone were claimed to be finger resistance due to oleophobic coating.
Multimedia Support
Both devices has two cameras, rear and front cameras. It is also the main features offered by iPhone, its rear camera can produce larger print image up to 5 megapixels, whereas iPod only 0.7 megapixels, both are from the same CMOS image sensors. One of the main features offered by iPhone is that its front camera support Geotagging capabilities due to GPS support in iPhone.

Latest connectivity technologies were incorporated into iPhone and iPod, such as 2.4 GHz 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, 3-axis gyroscope. In addition to that iPhone embedded with Penta-band UMTS/HSDPA, and HSUPA, and microSIM.
Power and Dimensions
iPod touch comes with lower battery capacity, 930 mAh, whereas in iPhone 1420 mAh, hence shorter hours of use. iPhone is slightly larger and weighs more than iPod Touch. The original iPod Touch is easily identified by its black border, whereas iPhone has silver border.
